For more than 50 years, Sue and Ralph Holmes have been exhibiting Show Dogs.
Starting with Shetland Sheepdogs and Poodles. Poodles took over, and it was not long before they were Showing all 3 sizes of Poodle in the UK, Europe and Ireland. They gained many titles and won Best in Show at several Poodle Club Championship Shows, before gaining their first Best in Show at a General Championship Show.
The Show was at Builth Wells, in 1978, home of the Welsh Kennel Club and the Poodle was The Champion Suraliam Rupert, a black Miniature, Rupert went on to win 37 Challenge Certificates and was the Breed Record Holder for several years. Another very famous Poodle bred at Suraliam was, Champion Suraliam Putting on the Ritz, another record breaking brown Miniature Poodle. There was also a Champion Suraliam Boogey Woogey a black Toy who is also known worldwide. Many Breeders in the 80′s benefited from our bloodlines.
it was not until we built our own Quarentine Kennels in South Yorkshire that the Siberian Huskies took over pride of place at Suraliam. The Import of Siberian Huskies from the Innisfree Kennel in the United States was the follow on from the first arrival at Suraliam, International Champion Artic Blue Chancellor, better knows as “Chan”. He was campaigned very successfully by Sue and soon added English Champion to his title list. He soon the Irish Champion title and won Best in Show at Killarney on the Irish Circuit. He successfully won the Champion Stakes at SKC and was placed in the Final four at the Pedigree Chum Final at the Metropole. “Chan” was just as successful in the Veteran Stakes later on.
Suraliam continued to enjoy success both in the Breed and the Stakes Classes for many years, them moved on to Europe with Junior World Champion Suraliam Charmed, better known as “Phoebe”.
Five years ago Suraliam decided to move to Ireland with the rest of the Show Team with tremendous sucess with quite a number of Suraliam home-bred dogs.
Having already crowned 12 Siberian Husky Irish Champions, they are currently campaigning a successful Show Team of both males and females.
In 2012 Keeshonds arrived at Suraliam from Tina Drake in Spain, and have started off quite successfully.
